How to Jump Start Another Car

Did your car refuse to start today? It could be that you have a dead battery. However, you don’t have to fear. There is a quick, step-by-step process to charging up your dead battery for one last trip. That should be enough to get you to the shop. This process is called jump-starting, and you only need a set of jumper cables to get started.

Jump-starting a car refers to attaching your dead car battery to the battery of a working car and allowing it to charge off of the working battery. Jumper cables are used to attach the car batteries together. To do this, you’ll need to attach clips to the terminals on your battery. The red clips attach to the positive (+) terminals on the battery, and the black clips attach to the negative (-) terminals on the battery.

Once attached, you can turn on the working car battery to start charging the dead battery. It should take between 10 and 15 minutes to get enough of a charge to start your car.
