The Types of Dummies Used in Side Crash Tests

The IIHS has made plenty of adjustments to the tests to make them more realistic. This is especially the case for the side tests. Among the adjustments the IIHS has made is the dummies that are used in this case. This has resulted in a more complete and better test for crashing.

The dummies that are used for crash tests are SID-II dummies. These represented women and children. For one thing, women and children were more likely to suffer serious injuries. Women are more likely to suffer head injuries than men when it came to side crashes.

Vehicles are put through severe side crash tests. The types of crashes are so severe that if they were to happen in the rear world, people are not likely to get through the crash without some sort of injury. However, well protected vehicles from the side have a larger survival possibility.
